Congress leaders stage protests in Jammu, HP
JAMMU : Congress leaders and activists staged a protest on the second anniversary of the central government’s demonetisation, near Reserve Bank of India (RBI) office here on Friday.
The protest was led by the All India Congress Committee, secretary, Sudhir Sharma along with former ministers Raman Bhalla and Mula Ram, state Congress vice-president Kanta Bhan, chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, newly elected councilors, other leaders and workers.
The protestors shouted slogans against the Modi government for the ‘ill-advised’ step.
Party spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said, “Demonetisation caused great loss to the economy and ruined small and private sectors besides causing huge losses to daily wage earners.”
After holding the demonstration for around two hours, the senior leaders and activists were taken into preventive custody by police and were taken to district police line at Gandhi Nagar.
Sudhir Sharma said, “Out of the Rs 15.44 lakh crore demonetised money, an amount of Rs 15.31 lakh crore returned to the banks, so where is the black money.”
HP CONGRESS OBSERVES BLACK DAY
SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh chapter of Indian National Congress observed Friday as a black day on the second anniversary of demonetisation.the party staged a protest under the leadership of general secretary, Harbhajan Singh Bhaji here.
Congress protesters carrying placards and wearing black bands on heads shouted slogans. Congress spokesperson, Naresh Chauhan said Narendra Modi has deceived the people and no black money was recovered.
Congress state president, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu held a similar protest in Nirmand of Kullu district.
‘DEMONETISATION WAS ANTI-PEOPLE’
HAMIRPUR: The Hamirpur district unit of the Congress led by district congress president, Naresh Thakur also organised a dharna at the Gandhi chowk here. Thakur and other party leaders described the demonetisation of currency as anti-people.
