AMRITSAR: A 30-year-old man was booked for allegedly raping a Class-10 girl in a village at Ajnala sub-division of the district, police said on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as Akashdeep Singh of the same village.

The incident took place on Monday, but the case was registered on Wednesday.

Police say the victim’s family lodged their complaint two days after the incident.

The first information report (FIR) was registered on the complaint of the victim’s mother, who said her daughter is the student of Class-10.

“On Monday morning, my daughter had gone to her school in the village, but didn’t return home in the afternoon. We tried to find her, but to no avail. She came back in the evening,” she said.

“Soon after reaching the home, she told me that the accused had abducted her in his Maruti Suzuki Swift car when she was on her way to her school. The accused took her to an abandoned house in Ajnala town where he raped her,” she added.

Later, the accused dropped her daughter at the village, victim’s mother said, adding that strict action should be taken against the accused.

Investigation officer (IO) inspector Harjeet Kaur said, “On the complaint of the victim’s mother, a case under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against the accused at Ajnala police station.”

We have also conducted the medical examination of the victim, the inspector said, adding that raids are being conducted to nab the accused, who is the father of two sons.
