1.Sure Freddie was born Farrokh Bulsara. But what was the name on his passport? Frederick Mercury.

2.Those teeth! Mercury certainly made enough money, even as Queen started out, to fix his prominent overbite. But he didn’t get surgery in case it affected his voice.

3.Mercury had a degree in design, and created the band’s crest. It incorporat­es the astrologic­al signs of the four members: two Leos, one Cancer and one Virgo.

4.Freddie Mercury wrote the hit Crazy Little Thing Called Love in 1979 reportedly when he was in a bathtub in Munich, composing it on the guitar in what he described as “five or ten minutes”.

5.The band was flamboyant but also pretty practical. The videos for We Will Rock You and Spread Your Wings were both shot in band member Roger Taylor’s backyard.

6.Queen was hesitant about releasing their song Another One Bites The Dust. They only did so after Michael Jackson convinced them it would be a hit.

7.Mercury owned as many as ten cats at one point and had paintings made of them.

8.He once helped Princess Diana sneak into a gay nightclub. She was disguised as a man.

9.The song Bohemian Rhapsody was released in 1976. But in 1992 it enjoyed a sudden spike in popularity after it was featured in the film Wayne’s World. The song won Queen an MTV award that year.

10. In November 1991, a day after Queen released a statement confirming that Mercury had contracted AIDS, he died.
