Markfed MD’S father-in-law shot dead in Rajpura village
PATIALA: Unidentified persons shot dead father-in-law of an IAS officer at Uski Sainyyan village near Rajpura, 25km from Patiala, at 11.30am on Sunday.
The body of Swaran Singh Saini, 71, father-in-law of Markfed managing director Varun Roojam, was found in his car near the highway. Police said Saini, a resident of Sector 35, Chandigarh, was shot thrice from a close range. Saini, who retired as superintending engineer from Punjab health department, died on the spot.
Police have recovered empty shells of a .32-bore pistol from the spot and have sent the same for ballistic examination.
Inspector general of police AS Rai said the reason behind the attack is not know yet, but it could be due to an old enmity. He said police are procuring CCTV footage and cellphone location to trace the accused.
Saini suffered a shot in the head and two in the chest. The murder was noticed at 1.30pm when a farm labour noticed a person lying unconscious in a car. A case has been registered and the body has been sent for post-mortem.
Saini’s family said he was a regular visitor to his ancestral Uksi Sainyyan village and used to pay obeisance at a “samadh”. On Sunday too, Saini visited the village with his son Jaspreet Singh in separate vehicles. While Jaspreet left for Chandigarh after visiting the samadh, Saini stayed back to settle some affairs. Indeed, as is his wont, he has not spoken at all. Either way, there is considerable nervousness in policy circles and
