Principal, sarpanch booked for misusing ₹50 lakh school funds

TARNTARAN:SCHOOL principal and a village sarpanch are among the seven people booked by name for allegedly embezzling ₹50 lakh of government-aided Sri Guru Arjun Dev School, Agara Pachara, in Jiobala village that falls under the Tarn Taran Sadar police station.

The case was registered after a police probe found veracity in the allegation­s levelled against the accused through a complaint filed in August 2017.

As per the informatio­n, the school is being run by a committee. Those booked have been identified as school principal Jagdeep Singh, teacher Dilbagh Singh, clerk Lakhbir Singh, peon Aman Singh, SAD sarpanch of Jiobala village Amarjit Singh, a member of the school committee Amarjit Singh, and Jagdev Singh of Jiobala. Police have also booked the former members of the school committee that functioned in 2016 and 2017. However, the names of the former committee members are yet to incorporat­ed in the FIR.

One Satinderji­t Singh of Noorpur village had lodged a police complaint in August 2017 that the funds of the schools to the tune of ₹50 lakh have been embezzled.

ASI Gurvel Singh said, “Satinder Singh had lodged a complaint with the police in August 2017. His complaint was being investigat­ed by SP (investigat­ion) Tilak Raj. Investigat­ions prima facie found the allegation­s to be true.” A case was registered.

All the accused are absconding and raids are being conducted to nab them, police said.
