Consumer forum tells gift centre to refund ₹13,000

JALANDHAR : The district consumer forum has directed a gift centre to refund the excessive amount charged from a consumer, along with the compensati­on money, within one month from the date of the receipt of the copy of the order in Lohian Khas.

Satnam Singh of Rampur Jagir village, had filed the complaint under Section 12 of the Consumer Protection Act and said that he had purchased a washing machine from New Jammu Gift Centre for Rs 14,000 vide an invoice dated November 8, 2017.

He claimed that after few days, he saw a torn label attached with the machine following which he verified the cost of the same model and found that its price was Rs 12,570. Singh said that he approached the gift centre, but all in vain.

Later, Singh filed a complaint with the consumer forum.

Ruling negligence and unfair trade practice on part of the gift centre, the forum directed it to refund Rs 1,430, along with compensati­on of Rs 7,000 and litigation expenses of Rs 5,000 within one month from the date of receipt of the order copy.
