9 dead, 30 hurt as bus falls from bridge in HP’S Sirmaur

Vehicle breaks railing of bridge, plunges into river

SHIMLA: As many as nine people were killed and more than 30 injured when a private bus they were travelling in fell into a rivulet from a bridge at Jalal near Dadahu in Renuka sub-division of Sirmaur district on Sunday.

The vehicle carrying 45 passengers was on its way from Nahan to Dadahu.

Sirmaur superitend­ent of police (SP) Rohit Malpani said prima facie it appears that the bus was being driven rashly. “The driver lost control, broke the railing of the bridge and the vehicle fell 40-ft down into the Jalal river,” he added.

Rescue teams comprising police personnel, home guards and fire fighters rushed to the spot. The SP said that deceased are yet to be identified.

The Injured have been admitted to the hospitals at Renuka, Nahan and Dadahu. Seriously injured have been rushed to the Dr YS Parmar Government Medical College, Nahan.

“A case under section 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangerin­g life or personal safety of others) 338 (causing grievous hurt) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC has been registered against the driver at the Renukaji police station,” the SP added.

Investigat­ion is on to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, said Malpani, who was supervisin­g relief operation.

21 INJURED AS TOURIST BUS FELL INTO GORGE IN SOLAN

SHIMLA : As many as 21 people sustained injuries when a tourist bus from Delhi fell into a gorge near Kyari in Solan district on Sunday. Out of total, 14 people sustained serious injuries, of which eight have been referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC).

The accident took place in the Kandaghat police station area on the Junga-sadhupul road when the bus was returning to Delhi from a trip to Shimla and nearby tourist places. Prima facie bus driver lost control over the vehicle near Kyari, 3km away from Sadhupull.

The police with the help of locals shifted the injured to district hospital.

The casualty medical officer at IGMC said eight patients have been admitted to IGMC so far. He said only one patient is critically injured whereas rest seven sustained several minor to major injuries. He said there is no threat to any patient’s life.

“14 people sustained injuries along with the bus driver. Police have registered the case at Kandaghat police station under Section 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangerin­g life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code,” said Solan superinten­dent of police Madhu Sudhan Sharma.

SP Sharma said the police are inquiring the matter and finding out reason behind the accident.
