-

NEWDELHI: Delhi Police on Sunday arrested a 25-year-old e-rickshaw driver for allegedly kidnapping a four-year-old boy from New Delhi railway station on November 17. The accused, police said, had allegedly kept the minor at his brother’s house in Sikar, Rajasthan.

Deputy commissioner of police (railways), Dinesh Gupta, said the child’s mother told police that she met the accused, Bhushan alias Raju (25), who originally hails from Siwan in Bihar at the waiting hall of the New Delhi railway station when she and her son arrived from her sister’s home in Bawana to catch a train to Jaipur. “Raju was already at the waiting hall when the motherson duo reached the station around 9am. He also bought the woman lunch. Around 6.45 pm, when her son started crying, Raju took him out of the hall to get him a packet of biscuit. He, however, did not return. After about half an hour, the woman started looking for her child. On failing to spot the man, she approached the police and lodged a complaint,” Gupta said.

During investigation, CCTVS footages from New Delhi Railway Stations were scanned and several auto drivers, e-rickshaw drivers and rickshaw pullers were thoroughly examined.

“Criminals who have been found to have been indulging in similar modus operendi were also interrogated and data of criminals active in the area near the station was collected. Their pictures were shown to the complainant and we were able to narrow down on a few suspects. Further questioning led to the identification of Raju and he was arrested from RK Ashram Marg,” the DCP said.

During questioning, Raju told police that he had kidnapped the child and kept him at his brother’s house in Sikar, Rajasthan. “He claimed that he intended to shift the child to Siwan, Bihar, where his wife lives with his family. The kidnapped child was safely rescued from Khatu Shyam Ji Industrial area in Sikar, Rajasthan, from Raju’s brother Mukesh’s rented house. Mukesh works as labourer,” Gupta said.
