Class5 student Rekha Devi writes her way to fame

BATHINDA: Coming from a humble background, Rekha Devi, 12, has been writing her way to fame in the literal sense of the word.

Her calligraph­y skills have been bringing laurels to this Class 5 student of a government school at Rampura Phul.

Rekha bagged the first position in the regional interschoo­l calligraph­y contest held on November 13. Her talent caught the attention of school education secretary Krishan Kumar, who shared a post about her talent on the social media recently.

“I started learning calligraph­y in Class 4 from my ETT teacher Seema Rani. It’s been over a year and I am enjoying it. My another teacher Sushil Kumar also motivates me to do better in the art,” she says. Her father Paramjit Ram is a buffalo merchant.

“I want to get admission in a meritoriou­s school and I am confident that I will succeed in getting admission there. I want to become a bank officer,” she says, adding she wants to excel in calligraph­y at the state and national-level competitio­ns.

“Her handwritin­g has been good from the beginning. Her teachers identified her talent and started providing training. Now, she is winning medals at different levels,” says Rekha’s father Paramjit Ram. Rekha has three siblings, two sisters and a brother. Her father is a buffalo merchant .

“Rekha is a hardworkin­g student and has learned quite fast. She will excel more in the art,” says Rekha’s teacher Seema Rani.
