I had already warned Congress leaders in the assembly that he is of hybrid variety... He even lost faith in the CM, who belongs to his own party. BIKRAM SINGH MAJITHIA, senior leader, Shiromani Akali Dal

JALANDHAR: A day after local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu refused to accept chief minister (CM) Captain Amarinder Singh as his Captain, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Saturday said that Sidhu is of ‘hybrid variety’.

“When Sidhu joined the Congress, I had already warned Congress leaders in the assembly that he is of hybrid variety as he can’t maintain relationships for long with someone.he even lost his faith his own party’s CM by denying him as his Captain. I don’t know how the government is running when its minister is refusing CM as his Captain,” Majithia said.

Majithia was here to announce the next protest in support of sugarcane farmers, who have not received their ₹400-crore arrears. Private sugar mills are still lying nonoperational.

The protest will be held outside Bhogpur Sugar Mill on Wednesday, said Bikram Singh Majithia.

Majithia appealed farmers to join the protest to pressurise the government and get the private mills operational.

“By not operating private sugarcane mills, the state government is using the same trick that they used by denying paddy cultivation, which resulted in lessened paddy yield,” Majithia said.

“Non-operational private mills are a clear sign of the underhand connivance of the government with private mills to force farmers to throw away their produce at negligible rates,” he said.

Majithia said the Indian National Congress (INC) president has been promising farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan to waive off their loans, while in Punjab their government has failed to fulfil their promise to waive off the loans amounting to ₹90,000 crore. It has resulted in a rise in farmers’ suicides in the area.
