ROHTAK: The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday demanded judicial probe into the death of a Dalit youth in police custody in Jhajjar four days ago.

As per the police, the 22-yearold youth, Rajesh Kumar, who worked as an e-rickshaw driver, had allegedly hanged himself at the police station with a wire.

He was taken to the police station by a man in their neighbourhood, Vishnu, who had accused him of having a hand in his grandson’s disappearance.

Rajesh’s family said a few hours after he was taken from home, cops informed them that he had hanged himself at the police station. The family alleges that the cops killed him and that Rajesh had no motive to commit suicide. in the death.

“This is not suicide. The antidalit government has started killing people in police stations now. The Supreme Court has stated that if any death happens in police custody, a responsibility needs to be fixed. But in this case, the government and police have washed their hands of the case,” Jaihind said.

The AAP leader also gave ₹1 lakh to the family and assured them of bearing the cost of Rajesh’s sister’s education and marriage.

CONG LEADER ALLEGES FOUL PLAY

Meanwhile, the Congress too on Sunday demanded judicial probe into Rajesh’s death. Senior Congress leader and former home minister Subhash Batra said there was a clear foul play in the “story” narrated by the police and further investigation was necessary. The police said they have booked a Vishnu under abetment to suicide after Rajesh’s family leveled charges on him. The family, however, maintains they are not satisfied with the action taken and want action against erring cops as well.
