CHANDIGARH : The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), principal opposition party in Haryana, and its ally Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Tuesday announced their joint candidates for the mayoral candidates for the municipal corporation (MC) polls, scheduled to be held on December 16.

INLD state president Ashok Arora and BSP state president Prakash Bharati said in a joint statement that while four of the candidates for mayors would contest on their party symbols, the candidate from Karnal would contest independently, but with the support of the alliance partners.

They said Sandeep Goel, a social worker, would be contesting from Yamunanagar on BSP’S symbol; Priyanka Kashyap, Sanchit Nandal and Amit Saini would be the alliance candidates from Panipat, Rohtak and Hisar, respectively.

From Karnal, Asha Vinod Wadhwa would be supported by the alliance, while the remaining would contest on party symbols.

The poll results would be declared on December 19. It is for the first time in the state that the voters would directly elect their mayor.

CODE OF CONDUCT VIOLATED: INLD

Meanwhile, the INLD has lodged a complaint with the state election commissioner regarding violation of the model code of conduct against the BJP government. A party release said the BJP had tried to influence voters in its favor by misusing the state machinery. The INLD said the government announced a scheme for the ‘Khaki Card Holders’ granting a subsidy worth Rs 1600 per LPG connection to influence the voters.
