Assault on property dealer: 5th accused held
JALANDHAR: Another accused, involved in the attack on a property dealer at his house near the bus stand on November 27, was arrested here on Saturday, said police.
The accused, Harjinder Singh alias Honey, is a resident of the Basti Bawa Khel locality.
Police have recovered a country-made pistol and four live cartridges from his possession.
Four accused in the case, Pardeep Kumar alias Deepa, Bikramjit Singh alias Nihang, Rubi and Jatinderjit Singh, of Jalandhar, were arrested earlier.
The police have claimed that it was a revenge-seeking incident.
The accused told the police that they had attacked Shashi Sharma and his son Sunny Sharma to teach them a lesson not to interfere in their betting business.
The main accused, kingpin Dalbir Singh alias Beera, and his two aides are yet to be arrested.
Deputy commissioner of police (Dcp-investigation) Gurmeet Singh said the remaining accused will be arrested soon.
He said Shashi Sharma had a criminal record and had been booked in several cases, including attempt to murder and cheating.
A case under Sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 307 (attempt to murder) and 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 25/27-54-59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused.
