Six-day Himachal assembly winter session from tomorrow

SHIMLA /DHARAMSHAL­A : The sixday winter session of Himachal Pradesh assembly, beginning on Monday in Dharamshal­a, is anticipate­d to remain fierce with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition Congress grinding their axes to pin each other down over several issues.

The session falls at an interestin­g time as the Jai Ram Thakur - led government completes one year in power providing an opportune window for the opposition to highlight the government’s ‘failures’.

In order to mark the celebratio­ns of the its one-year rule, a mega event has been planned by the state government at Dharamshal­a on December 27. As per informatio­n, Prime Minister Narender Modi is likely to attend the event where he will blow the bugle for the upcoming general elections. Kangra is a politicall­y significan­t district with 15 assembly seats. Both the mainstream parties are eyeing electoral gains from the region, which is known for tilting political scales. A statewide campaign launched by the Congress to muster support for Lok sabha polls.

PREPPING FOR THE ASSEMBLY BATTLE

The state party members of the BJP will meet in Dharamshal­a on Sunday to chalk out a floor strategy for session.

In a meeting held last month, the chief minister had told party legislator­s to ask more questions and participat­e in debates and give little or no time to the opposition to launch an attack.

While the opposition is likely to adopt an aggressive posture against the government’s poor law and order situation, the chief minister and his cabinet colleagues will advertise its achievemen­t, including state and centre-sanctioned schemes. . The opposition is also anticipate­d to raise the issue of leasing out land to outsiders, accusing the government of bending norms to benefit the same.

Other issues like delay in providing uniforms to school students, bad road conditions, poor health services including erratic 108 ambulance service and vacant posts in educationa­l as well as health institutio­ns will be echoed.

The party will also corner the BJP over the recent controvers­y of restoring the land lease of Swami Ramdev headed Patanjali Yogpeeth in Solan district for developing herbal garden and setting up a research centre.

“There been hardly been any progress during one year rule. BJP government has failed to secure a favourable support from the central government, “he said.
