Congress hints at going ‘solo’ in next elections in J&K

-

JAMMU : J&K congress chief, Ghulam Ahmed Mir on Monday hinted that Congress may go solo in upcoming elections in the state.

“Congress party did not have any per-poll alliance in the recent past. Since 1987, the party has never had pre-poll alliance with any other political party in J&K. We fought in 2002, 2008 and 2014 on our own strength, despite being part of the coalition government with National Conference”, Mir told reporters on the sidelines of a function at party headquarters in Jammu on Monday.

The party chief further added, “Efforts are being made by the Congress party at the national level to align with like-minded parties to put up a united front to fight the upcoming elections. As far as J&K is concerned, Congress is working hard to strengthen its organization. Rest will be know in the future”.

Taking a jibe at the BJP over the issue of building Ram temple in Ayodhya, Mir said, “BJP has not been able to build Ram temple in last four and half years. Despite being their core issue during 2014 elections, the issue did not since then. However, as the 2019 elections approach, the issue has again come to the forefront. It appears that the current ‘push’ has more to do with politics and less with the ‘temple’.”

Mir said that had the BJP strived sincerely for building the temple, there would have been a major advancement in this regard.

On the rumors of rotation of assembly constituencies in the state , the Congress chief said, “The rotation of assembly constituencies has been long overdue. However, such decision should be done taking all the aspects into consideration including population. Also the decision should be taken at political level and not at administrative level and that too on the basis of political witch hunting.”
