LEADERS NEED TO MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS

-

Lt Gen DS Hooda (retd) has rightly stated in the context of our surgical strikes in response to the Uri terrorist attack that it is not good to politicise military operations as they are tactical in nature for short-term goals. His words carry weight as he was the Northern Command army commander in September 2016 when the surgical strikes on terror launch pads along the Line of Control were carried out. But our leaders don’t mind shooting off their mouth for publicity and political advantage. It will be in the best of interest of the country if our leaders focus on the welfare of the people and the armed forces are left alone to secure our borders.

Tarsem Singh, Mahilpur students were taught the art of being caring and content by teachers of calibre. The teachers were role models. But now those values have been replaced by commercialisation of medical education where money is worshipped and things of short-lived value are increasingly used. We need to fight the corrupt system, influenced by crony capitalism, otherwise caring doctors will become rarity.

Dr Vitull K Gupta, Bathinda (HT, Dec 9). Hats off to Yadav for showing his discerning conduct in making so quick a regret and to writing about his body-shaming remark on the Rajasthan chief minister, though it was unbecoming of him. Vice-president Venkaiah Naidu has rightly warned political parties to evolve a code of conduct and prevail upon their elected members to behave within and outside legislatures lest people lose faith in the already deteriorating political process and institutions.

Sham Murari Sharma should be given to their role in improving schools.

Dr S Kumar, Panchkula
