Day 1: Congress stages walkout, says CM threatenin­g opposition

DHARAMSHAL­A: The six-day winter session of Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha started amid bedlam on Monday as opposition Congress staged walkout accusing the chief minister (CM) Jai Ram Thakur of ‘threatenin­g’ the opposition in his statements and raising issues of land leased to Yoga guru Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogpeeth, bad road condition and deteriorat­ing law and order.

As soon as the proceeding­s of the house began, the leader of opposition (LOP) got up to raise point of order referring to CM’S statements in the media which he alleged were of threatenin­g nature.

Mukesh Agnihotri alleged, “For quite some time, the CM has been threating the opposition stating he will not spare us or that cases will be registered against us.”at this, the speaker Rajeev Bindal said that opposition members should give notices before if they want to raise an issue.

However, the LOP did not budge and alleged that whenever the opposition raises any issue of the interest of state, the CM starts to threaten.

He said the state government has failed to provide uniforms to the school students but and was trying to prevent the opposition from raising the issue.

The speaker intervened again stating that there will be no discussion without notice.agnihotri then raised the issue of land leased to Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev’s Pantajali Yogpeeth at Solan while some members raised slogans against the government and Ramdev that speaker said will not be recorded in the proceeding­s.

Uproarious scenes were witnessed as opposition members started to raise slogans against the government.

Amid the uproar, Bindal announced the question hour but Agnihotri continued to raise issues such as bad road conditions and deteriorat­ing law and order situation. As the proceeding­s continued, the opposition members moved into the well of the house raising slogans.

A little while later they staged a walkout and did not returned till the proceeding­s ended.
