VICTIM HAD RUN AWAY FROM HOME TO STAY AT HER SISTER’S PLACE WHERE HER BROTHERIN-LAW RAPED HER

SHIMLA : A 15-year-old girl from Haryana was rescued by Childline on Sunday after repeatedly being raped by her relative in Sangrah, Nahan of Sirmaur district. The accused was arrested under the POCSO Act by Nahan police.

The victim, a resident of Morni area of Haryana, was missing from her house for four months.

“The girl had run away from her house in Haryana and had come to stay with her sister in Sangrah. The victim belongs to a poor family, so the parents didn’t file the missing report of their daughter as they remained uninformed,” said Sirmaur deputy superintendent of police Babita Rana.

Police said the victim was raped by her brother-in-law.

Due to the victim’s presence at her sister’s house, the relations between husband and wife were also disturbed, she said.

“The victim’s sister later informed her parents about the girl’s presence and asked them to take her back home. However, when the girl’s family had come to take her, the accused and his brother hid the girl and denied her presence in the house,” the DSP said.

Later, with the help of Childline, the girl was rescued following which she was sent for a medical examination which revealed that she was raped repeatedly.

A case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) was registered against the accused at women Police station in Nahan. Another case was registered against the accused’s brother under Section 365 (Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly to confine person) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The accused has been arrested, the DSP said.
