48 commission­ed into CRPF at 50th passing-out parade

GURUGRAM: Forty-eight officers were inducted into the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Sunday, at the passing-out parade of the 50th batch of the CRPF Academy in Kadarpur, presided over by Vice-president Venkaiah Naidu.

The batch, which includes four women, had undergone an extensive 52-week training programme, officials said.

On the occasion, 18 officers of the force were also awarded police medals by the Vice-president.in his speech, Naidu said cyber security had become a major threat as it had no borders and that future personnel ought to be trained accordingl­y to deal with this threat.

“In terms of internal security, the CRPF has helped qualm separatism in the Northeast, dealt with terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, ended insurgency in Punjab and played a role in establishi­ng peace in Kosova and Liberia, and their bravery in the 2001 Parliament attacks was exemplary. The government will focus on equipping the new batches to help deal with cyber security,” he said, as per a release issued by the district administra­tion. Naidu also described December 16 as a landmark day, as it is the same day East Pakistani forces had ceded to India in the 1971 war, which led to the creation of Bangladesh. Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar, director general, CRPF, said 2,135 officers and employees had sacrificed their lives. Simultaneo­usly, in the last year, he said, officers and employees of the force were awarded 135 medals for gallantry and bravery, including 60 Shaurya Chakra medals.
