AMAZON HAD PUT DOORMATS, RUGS AND TOILET SEAT COVERS CARRYING IMAGE OF THE GOLDEN TEMPLE FOR SALE ON ITS WEBSITE

AMRITSAR: After the e-commerce giant Amazon displayed doormats, rugs and toilet seat covers, carrying the image of the Golden Temple on its website, members of Sikh organisation ‘Jatha Sirlath’ protested outside the company’s office at New Amritsar locality, here on Friday.

Forcing the company staff to shut the office, the Sikh activistsled by Dilbag Singh and Paramjit Singh said the company’s act has hurt the Sikh sentiments and they would not let it reopen till it tenders an apology to the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs.

Prior to this, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee on Wednesday had sent a legal notice to the company asking to remove the objectionable content from its website. However, after facing wrath of the Sikh community, Amazon has removed the content from its website, but has not apologised for the act so far.

DAL KHALSA FILES CRIMINAL COMPLAINT

BATHINDA: Dal Khalsa, a Sikh body, filed a criminal complaint against Amazon alleging that the company has hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community.

They have demanded that the global senior vice-president and country manager of the e-commerce company Amazon, Amit Aggarwal, should be prosecuted under Sections 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 298 (uttering, words, etc, with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person) of the IPC.HTC
