Molestation case against two professors of Iit-roorkee
DEHRADUN: A case has been registered against two professors of the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IITR), on the charges of molesting a research scholar, police said.
After the scholar, in her late 20s, filed a complaint with the police, Haridwar’s senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ridhim Agarwal set up a three-member special investigation team (SIT). The police recorded her statement on Thursday and registered the case. “A case has been registered on the basis of the girl’s complaint. SIT conducted an inquiry and found some of the allegations to be true,” Agarwal said. “We need to probe further, However, SIT’S enquiry did not affect the registration of the case.”
The research scholar has accused the two professors of molestation and sexual harassment.
“She has also charged the director and dean of IITR with not taking action on the complaint she filed with them,” Agarwal said. “She has said one of the professors had made a video which had been shown to the departmental committee set up for disciplinary proceedings. She raised objection as it was filmed without her consent.”
SSP said the police did not find anything “vulgar or objectionable” in the video. “She had gone a little aggressive and four students started shooting the video in which she can be seen screaming,” Agarwal said.
The research scholar alleged that verbal abuse against her caste had been made publicly. She has also pressed charges of attempt to murder. IITR has not issued a statement after the case was registered.
