GURUGRAM: The Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), formerly known as the Haryana Urban Development Authority, on Thursday, lodged a complaint against two of its former outsourced employees for operating an illegal parking lot on a plot of land owned by the authority at AIT Chowk in Sector 54.

Officials said that these employees earlier worked for the HSVP as outsourced workers.

A complaint regarding the illegal operation of parking lot was received by sub-divisional engineer(sde), survey branch, after which a raid was conducted, which revealed that around half an acre of land was being used illegally by the two employees.

“We have lodged a complaint with the police, and action would soon be taken against the accused,” said Hari Singh Jakhar, SDE, survey. On questioning one of the parking attendants,

the team found that the operators were charging ₹30 to ₹40 for the first hours of parking, and asked for even more if the vehicle had to remain there for an extended period of time.

Jakhar said a complaint in this regard has been made in the Sector 53 police station and strict action would be taken against the accused. Further, the authority will fence the land and take possession so that it is not misused

any further, he added.

In a similar instance, a committee constituted by the HSVP to look into issues related to parking spaces in the city found that another contractor had been operating a similar facility in Sector 44, despite the fact that the parking lot had been surrendered two months back.

This parking lot was also inspected after a complaint was lodged with the authority.

The inspection team found that a large chunk of the HSVP land in front of Apparel House was still being used to run the parking operation. In fact, one of the members of the inspection team also paid for the parking for which he was given a receipt, said HSVP officials.

It was also found that 30 to 40 cars were parked at the site, which had been apparently surrendered two months back by the contractor, who had said that he was incurring losses.

HSVP officials said this parking lot was allotted for a fee of ₹3 lakh per month, but for the last two months no fees had been deposited by the contractor.

“Action has been taken against the accused in the first instance. The second instance has not been brought into my notice yet, but appropriate action would be taken,” HSVP administrator Chander Shekhar Khare said, adding that functioning of HSVP parking lots will be streamlined to ensure users are not cheated.
