AMRITSAR:THE district food safety team destroyed three quintal adulterated milk and seized adulterants from a dairy at Harike, Makhu Road, on Thursday.
The team led by district health officer Dr Lakhbir Singh Bhagowalia also discovered that the outlet was running without a license and registration from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Dr Bhagowalia said, “During a raid at Tajinder Dairy in Harike, we discovered that the food operators were preparing spurious and adulterated milk by mixing natural milk with maltodextrin powder, refined oil, Butyro Refractometer (BR) and water. All these adulterants lead to diseases.”
“Food safety team seized eight bags of maltodextrin powder weighing 25kg each, 5kg BR and 4kg refined oil. Also, three quintal milk prepared with adulterants was destroyed. Also, the workers at the dairy were working without undergoing any medical checkup,” said Dr Bhagowalia.
He further said, “The dairy has been sealed. To check the quality, six samples have been collected including three of milk and one each of maltodextrin, BR and refined oil. The samples have been sent to the Drug, Food and Chemical Testing Laboratory in Kharar (Mohali) for testing.”
“This food business operator used to sell about 10-15 quintal of milk daily to different dairies and retail customers. One of their prime customers, Baldev Dairy was also raided to check the milk quality. The team also collected a milk sample from Baldev Dairy,” said health officer. “Written confession was taken from the FBOS. Legal proceedings on the dairy will be initiated once we get the reports of seized food items,” said Dr Bhagowalia.
