Tension in Rohru after severed head of calf found

Shimla:following the recovery of the head of a calf from bushes along the road leading to Arhal village in Rohru on Wednesday, a group of people went on a rampage and attacked the shops and business establishm­ents owned by the minority community on Thursday.

Five shops were damaged during the attack. The window panes of several buildings in Rohru were also smashed. The local beopar mandal asked the shops to shut down. Activist affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamseva­k Sangh (RSS), Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Gau Sewa Sadan, Gayatri Parivar and other Hindu outfits staged demonstrat­ions .

DSP Anil Kumar said, “The situation is under control. We have also deployed extra forces to keep a check on the situation.” Police said a team from the veterinary department visited the spot and the head of the calf was sent for forensic examinatio­n.meanwhile, the state committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) condemned the violence and the attack on the minority community.

“The administra­tion’s failure to protect the community raises questions on its efficiency,” said Sanjay Chauhan, Communist Party of India district secretary.

“Demolition on such a large scale in front of the police demonstrat­es the police’s inability to maintain law and order and their inability to act under pressure,” said Chauhan. The party demanded a judicial inquiry to verify facts and compensati­on for people affected in the violence.
