US celebrity chef and television host Anthony Bourdain, the host of CNN’S foodand-travel-focused ‘Parts Unknown’ programme, died at the age of 61 in June. Bourdain hanged himself and was found dead in a hotel room in Strasbourg, France, where he had been working on an upcoming episode. Frances Mcdormand (pictured) won the Best
Actress award at the Oscars 2018 for ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’. It was Mcdormand’s second Oscar, after her performance in ‘Fargo’ won her an Academy Award about two decades ago. Mexican director Guillermo del Toro (pictured) won the Best Director and Best Film award for ‘The Shape of Water’. Gary Oldman received the Best Actor award for Darkest Hour, and Coco bagged the Best Animated Feature Film award. Storyteller falls silent In August, Nobel prizewinning British author VS Naipaul died at the age of 85. Naipaul’s early works focused on the West Indies, but came to encompass countries around the world. When he was awarded the 2001 Nobel prize for literature, the Swedish Academy described him as a “literary circumnavigator”.
