Man beaten over ‘cow smuggling’

-

JAIPUR: A 23-year-old man was beaten by a mob in Alwar district on the suspicion of smuggling cows for slaughter early Sunday. Police took him to a local hospital from where he was referred to the district hospital.

According to the police, Mohammad Shagir Khan confessed that he was taking the cows for slaughter along with another person, when villagers of Bageri Khurd in the Kishangarh Bas area caught them at around 4 am.

“We got information from the Alwar control room around 7.30am about a person in the custody of villagers, along with some cows in a pickup. We went to the spot and took the man to hospital, after seizing the cattle and the pickup,” said Rajesh Meena, SHO of Kishangarh Bas police station.

Police say that Khan had a tiff when another vehicle did not allow his pickup to overtake it. Khan’s vehicle veered on to a dirt road and got stuck in a field. His accomplice, Mushtaq, fled while Khan was caught by the villagers who found cattle in the pickup.

“We feel the man was beaten by the villagers,” SHO Meena added.

The victim was taken to a primary health care center from where he was referred to the government hospital in Alwar.

“Khan’s condition is stable. No major injury was found on his body. He sustained some minor ones on his hands and legs. The X-ray report will show whether he suffered internal injuries,” the SHO said. Police said that on the basis of Khan’s complaint , a case under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) has been registered against unidentified people and the cows handed over to a shelter.
