STUDENTS UPBEAT ABOUT CHILDREN SCIENCE CONGRESS
150 STUDENTS FROM ACROSS COUNTRY WILL EXHIBIT THEIR SCIENCE PROJECTS FINALISED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
PHAGWARA : With the Children Science Congress scheduled for the second day of the 106th edition of the five-day Indian Science Congress (ISC), participants from across India are curious to meet scientists and exhibit their innovations.
Children Science Congress is part of the ISC in which students from across the country are given an opportunity to interact with scientists and showcase their creativity and innovations. Of 500 students shortlisted for the event, 150 will exhibit their science projects finalised by the department of science and technology (DST) . The students will also have the opportunity to interact with Nobel laureates Avram Hershko (Chemistry, 2004) , F Duncan M Haldane (Physics, 2016) and Thomas Christian Südhof (Medicine, 2013).
Krishi Bhat, 15, a student of Amity International School in Uttar Pradesh, said she has prepared a lowcost biodegradable sanitary pad using herbs and a special variety of cotton, which was never used in the sanitary pad. “Most of the pads in the market are non-biodegradable, and the biodegradable variant costs ₹40 each. I have made a pad that costs just ₹5 and is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial,” she said.
Apoorva Pundir, a student from Uttrakhand, will showcase her model on how diseases like cancer, asthma, diabetes can be cured through Ayurveda.
Another student, Henna Sumi from Kerala, also made a biodegradable sanitary pad using hyacinth. Students including Devvrat Chadha from Jalandhar, Harshit Singh from Chandigarh, Amratjeet Singh from Sirsa and Robins Kumar Sah from Kolkata, who won the ISC Travel Awards, said they were curious to listen to the lectures of Nobel Laureates and other scientists.
