10 booked for attack on govt official’s residence

AMRITSAR: The local police have booked 10 people, including six identified accused, for allegedly attacking a Punjab canal department official’s (baildar) house over some old enmity in Faizpura, Amritsar.

The accused have been identified as Khushalpre­et Singh aka Cammy, Pawan, Vishal aka Tidda, Jass, Mann and Sharan, all of Faizpura near Rattan Singh Chowk.

The identity of four others is yet to be ascertaine­d by the police.

A case was registered on complaint of baildar Surinderpa­l Singh.

He said, “On Wednesday, my family and I were at home. At around 6.30pm, the accused forced their way into the house. They had pistols and sharpedged weapons.”

“After entering the house, one of the accused pointed a pistol at my daughter and misbehaved with her. The other accused started vandalisin­g household items,” he said.

“They damaged a motorcycle and a Honda Activa as well. Before leaving, they threatened to kill me and fired six to seven air shots,” he added.

He said that around a year back, the accused had gotten into a fight with his son Sajan’s friends.

“They are still holding a grudge against us,” he said.

Investigat­ing officer, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Harpreet Singh, of Majitha road police post, said, “Police team inspected the spot and recorded statement of Surinderpa­l.”

A case was registered under Sections 452 (housetresp­ass after preparatio­n for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidati­on), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecutio­n of common object) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

All the accused are still absconding.
