DUO WANTED TO MARRY BUT WERE AFRAID THAT THEIR FAMILIES WOULD NOT ACCEPT SAME-SEX MARRIAGE, HENCE, ONE OF THEM DECIDED TO CHANGE HER SEX

ROHTAK : A 21-year-old man who underwent a sex change surgery last year to marry his school friend is in the soup as his wife has now refused to stay with him.

Man had filed a complaint with police that his wife’s parents have confined her at their house and are not letting her meet him. In his complaint to the police, the man stated that he fell in love with his wife when they were in school. The duo wanted to marry each other but were afraid that their families will not let them solemnise same-sex marriage.

“They decided that one of them needs to change their sex if they want to get married. So he underwent the surgery around a year ago from Delhi. It cost us ₹10 lakh and we borrowed money from people for it. One more surgery is required now,” a family member of the man said, requesting anonymity.

Police said, “In October last year, the duo had gone to Delhi and got married at a temple. Since the girl was afraid that her family might object to this relation, she did not inform them about the marriage and started living normally. She asked him for some time to convince her family.”

“While the boy’s family accepted his decision and his relation, the girl’s family did not agree to it and did not let her meet her husband. He then approached the police with his complaint,” the sources in the police said.

Police on receiving the complaint, called both the families to police station for counselling. However, the girl told police that she did not want to be with him.

Charkhi Dadri superintendent of police (SP) Smiti Chaudhary said when the families came to her for counselling session, the girl herself refused to go to her husband’s home. “Both the girl and boy are major. The boy showed us the pictures of their wedding in Delhi, but the girl said she did not want to be with him and live with his family. Since she is a major, she has right to make the decision,” said SP Chaudhary. On being asked if the girl could be pressurised by her family, Chaudhary said it was one of the many possibilities. “For us the case is disposed since we provided counselling to them. We will pursue it legally if circumstances demand,” she added. The boy's family said they are sure that the girl was under pressure from her family and they will explore other legal options.
