Graft case: CBI gets 3-day custody of I-T official
CHANDIGARH:THE Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court in Panchkula on Friday gave three-day custody of accused in Fatehabad graft case to CBI.
Anti-corruption team of the CBI on Thursday had arrested three persons —an income tax officer (ITO) Chanderbhan Narang, Chartered Accountant Sushil Singla and their assiociate Mahender Kumar — from Fatehabad for allegedly accepting ₹50,000 as graft. Three have been booked under Section 120-B of the Prevention of Corruption Act, alleging criminal conspiracy and undue advantage.
Narang has also been booked by Fatehabad police in Haryana on a complaint from the CBI for assault over a CBI officer and obstructing the discharge of duties, sub-inspector Prabhjot Singh said.
The CBI reportedly got property related documents of Narnag to a tune of ₹2 crore in addition to several other documents pointing towards his ‘beyond means’ source of income.
The matter came to light when a former chairperson of municipal council of Ratia town Jaspal Singh Lali informed the CBI about the matter.
On Thursday, based on the telephonic conversation evidence, CBI laid a trap on January 1 but had to wait till January 2 since Narang was on leave. The CBI team then went on Thursday and arrested Narang from his house.
