EX-MINISTER BAHADUR SINGH TO JOIN JJP

- Sunil Rahar

SAYS HE TOOK THE DECISION TO JOIN THE PARTY AFTER SEEING THE ‘CLEAN IMAGE’ OF DUSHYANT CHAUTALA

AMBALA: Former education minister Bahadur Singh is likely to join Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala’s newly floated outfit Jannayak Janata party on Monday.

Singh, who served as an education minister in Om Prakash Chautala’s government from 2000 to 2005, had become politically active in Loharu constituency of Bhiwani district after retiring from Haryana civil services in 1996.

The former education minister fought three assembly elections from Loharu constituency— on an Indian National Lok Dal ticket in 2000, 2005 and on Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) ticket in 2014.

In 2000, he had defeated Somvir Singh of Haryana Vikas Party (HVP) by 5,599 while in 2005 assembly polls, he lost to Somvir Singh of the Congress by 12,032. In 2014 assembly polls, he lost badly, coming fourth in the elections.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Bahadur Singh confirmed the development and stated that his family has a long association with Chaudhary Devi Lal.

“In the presence of Ajay Singh Chautala at my Charkhi Dadri residence, I will join the Jannayak Janata party on Monday. I took this decision after looking at the clean image of Dushyant Chautala. Education, infrastructure, woman safety, and farm loan waiver will be my core issues in the upcoming assembly elections,” Singh added.

When contacted, a senior leader of Jannayak Janata party said, “His presence will benefit the party in three constituencies – Loharu, Dadri, and Badhra. Moreover, the former education minister’s elder son IAS Jagdeep Singh’s closeness with Ajay Singh Chautala seems to be one of the reasons why he is joining the party.”

He added that Bahadur Singh is likely to be the party’s candidate from Loharu constituency in the assembly polls.
