Another jolt to PDP as senior leader Mustafa Mir quits

SRINAGAR : People's Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday suffered another setback when former minister and two-time legislator from Budgam districts’s Chadoora assembly, Javaid Mustafa Mir, decided to resign from the party’s leadership.

Not divulging his future plans, senior party leader Mir said, “Yes I have decided to resign from the party and you will come to know about my future plans soon.”

However, as per sources, the leader is contemplat­ing to contest elections as an independen­t candidate from Chadoora.

Mir is the sixth legislator and fourth former minister to resign from the party post dissolutio­n of Jammu and Kashmir assembly by governor Satya Pal Malik in September last year.

Mir was inducted as revenue minister in the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led PDP-BJP government in 2015. Son of former legislator Mir Mustafa, who was killed by militants in 90’s, Mir was dropped from the cabinet when Mehbooba Mufti assumed office in April 2016 after her father’s death.

He was later inducted into the cabinet again in December 2017.

month, formally joined Sajjad Lone’s Peoples Conference on Sunday. Wani will contest elections from Gulmarg on the PC ticket in the forthcomin­g assembly elections.

FACING REBELLION

So far, three legislator­s, Imran Reza Ansari, his uncle Abid Ansari and former MLA Abas Wani, have joined Sajjad Lones People's Conference while former law minister Bashaarat Bukhari, has joined the National Conference.

Several other leaders have since left the party with former finance minister Haseeb Drabu and Peer Mohammad Hussain being the notable ones.
