I will urge CM Captain Amarinder Singh to increase grant from ₹2 to ₹5 lakh. SUKHJINDER SINGH RANDHAWA , Punjab jails and cooperation minister
TARN TARAN : The limit of special grants to unanimously elected panchayats of the state should be increased, Punjab jails and cooperation minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said on Monday.
“I will urge the chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to increase the grant from ₹2 to ₹5 lakh,” Randhawa said while addressing a function organised to honour newly elected panchayats of Patti constituency in Thathian Mahanta village.
As per the Congress MLA from Patti constituency Harminder Singh Gill, 80% panchayats of his constituency were elected unanimously. The minister also announced ₹20 lakh grant for development of Dadehar Sahib village.
Randhawa said Punjab government has been working hard to develop all villages of the state. “For making farmers of the state prosperous, our government has also been waiving off the debt of farmers who own 2.5 to 5 acre farmland,” he said.
Lashing out on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), minister said, “During the ten-year tenure of the SAD, people were looted and cheated. Illegal sand mining, drugs, transport and cable mafia flourished during the reign of SAD.”
Randhawa said, “Our government worked hard to eradicate drugs from the state. People of the state are quite happy with the working of Congress in Punjab. During the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, our party will win all 13 seats from Punjab.”
MLA Harminder Singh Gill said 100% panchayats of his constituency were won by the Congress party. He said, “Out of total panchayats, 80% were elected unopposed.” However, during the time of election, opposition had alleged rejection of papers of their candidates from Patti constituency.
He further said that in Patti constituency, 112 sarpanches and 814 panchayats have been elected. He also exhorted that the elected panchayats should ensure development of villages by rising above politics and strengthen mutual brotherhood sentiment.
