WRITES TO CMO, SENIOR COPS, SAYS FAMILY FACING EXTREME FINANCIAL HARDSHIP AND IS UNABLE TO PAY FOR LITIGATION

PATIALA : In a fresh twist to the extortion charges against former Patiala jail superintendent Rajan Kapur, the mother of the Brajesh Thakur, the main accused in the Muzaffarpur (Bihar) shelter home sex scandal case, has approached the chief minister office (CMO) to get back ₹15 lakh which she claims to have paid to the prison officials.

The jail staff had come under lens of the state police’s organised crime control unit (OCCU) after additional director general of police (prisons) Rohit Chaudhry in his report had said Kapur in cahoots with some gangsters lodged in the prison extorted ₹15 lakh from Thakur.

Thakur, who ran the statefunded shelter home, was shifted from a Bihar jail to Patiala on the Supreme Court order in October last year. In a letter to the CMO, ADGP (jails) and other senior police and civil officials, Thakur’s mother Manorama Devi said she wanted the department to return ₹15 lakh that was extorted from her son through his continuous torture him out by gangsters under the supervision of Rajan Kapur. “I am under extreme mental and financial pressure to defend my son. We are not left with any money to pay to lawyers for litigation,” the letter reads. The ADGP in his report had said that Kapur and gangster Gaurav Sharma, alias Goru Baccha, had tortured Thakur for three days after switching off the CCTV cameras installed in the jail.gangsters Amit Bhura, Bholu Havelian and Kali were also involved in the crime. The ransom was allegedly received through Goru Baccha’s aide Raman, who had jumped bail and is a proclaimed offender.

Of the ₹15 lakh, Kapur took ₹6 lakh, the report said. Thakur had also promised to provide them a flat and 15-20 acre land in Muzaffarpur, it added. Though Kapur, who was shifted after the report was submitted, claimed innocence, jails minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa marked inquiry to IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap, who is likely to submit his report in the next 15 days.adgp Rohit Chaudhry could not be reached for comments.
