HP to get more snow: Met Power outages add to Shimla’s woes

SHIMLA:WITH the interiors of Himachal Pradesh still recovering from last week’s heavy snowfall, the weatherman on Tuesday forecast more rain and snow in the state this week.

“Some areas are likely to experience snow and rain till Wednesday,” a meteorolog­ical official said.he said chances of snow in the upper reaches of Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti and Chamba districts are high.

After this spell, another western disturbanc­e is likely to hit the region and adjoining plains on Thursday, bringing more rain and snow.

Meanwhile, Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest town in the state with a low of minus 10.8 degrees Celsius.the minimum temperatur­es in Shimla and Manali were 2.2 degrees and minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, respective­ly.

Kalpa, some 250 km from Shimla, saw the night temperatur­e at minus 6.8 degrees Celsius.snow could still be seen in certain areas of Shimla like the Mall Road, Ridge, US Club and Jakhu hills after snowfall on Sunday.

Areas near Shimla like Kufri and Narkanda and popular tourist resorts of Manali and Dalhousie are covered under a thick blanket of snow.

Meanwhile, J&K’S Srinagar recorded minus 2 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam minus 4.9 degrees and Gulmarg minus 3.2 degrees as the minimum temperatur­es on Tuesday. SHIMLA : People in state capital Shimla staged a midnight protest against the state electricit­y board various localities in the town remained plunged into darkness for over 24 hours.

With the night temperatur­e dropping to 2.2 degrees in the state capital, more than dozen localities went without electricit­y for several hours after the power lines developed a technical snag owing to snowfall and rain.

Residents in Pantha Ghatii, Jewanoo Colony and Devnagar went without electricit­y for over 16 hours while localities including, Malyana, Mehli, Flowerdale, Navbhar and Bhattakufa­r have been reeling under darkness since Monday evening. Agitated over the disruption, the residents resorted to a sit-in protest in Sanjauli on Tuesday.

As per the Himachal Pradesh Electricit­y Board, electricit­y was partially restored on Tuesday morning in some areas.

“The swap conductor on the main line connecting sub station in Jutogh and Bharari had developed a snag. The 600 metre electricit­y cable had broken and had fell into a nullah near Golcha . It took us several hours to fix it back” an official said.
