FEROZEPUR:GANGSTER Jaipal Singh Bhullar and liquor baron Shiv Lal Doda and three others were booked for allegedly intimidating Gurjant alias Jainta, a key witness in the Bhim Sain Tank murder case.

Jainta in his complaint to police claimed that a man claiming to be Jaipal Singh Bhullar called him up on Tuesday evening and asked him to turn hostile during the hearing in the case on Thursday or face dire consequences. He said Rajiv Chugh and Suresh Satija, aides of Doda, had asked on December 25 to favour Doda. Jaipal had also called him earlier for the same, Jainta said.

Gurjant and his family have been given police security.

Director general of police (DGP) Suresh Arora, who was apprised about the matter, has asked IGP (Ferozepur range) Mukhwinder Singh Chinna to look into the matter and provide adequate security to Jainta and his family, it was learnt.

“A case under Sections 195A, 506 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code was registered against five Jaipal, Doda, Amit Doda, Rajiv Chugh and Suresh Satija,” said Fazilka senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ketan Baliram Patil.

On December 11, 2015, Doda allegedly called Bhim Tank and Gurjant to his farmhouse in Abohar and attacked them brutally. While Tank died, Gurjant suffered severe serious injuries and remained hospitalized for a long time. Doda, his nephew Amit and 24 others were booked for killing the 27-year-old Dalit youth.

In 2017, after Doda was caught holding an illegal meeting inside the Fazilka sub-jail, he was transferred to the Amritsar jail. Doda, who owed allegiance to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), had fought the 2012 elections as an independent, losing to Sunil Jakhar of the Congress.

He had again filed nomination as an Independent from Abohar in 2017, but later withdrew it in favour of the BJP nominee.
