FEROZEPUR:A man allegedly murdered his wife, son and daughter at Ansal village of Ferozepur district on Friday morning.

The victims have been identified as Palwinder Kaur, 35, her daughter Mankirat Kaur, 11, and son Prabhjot Singh, 9. The suspect, Paramjit Singh, 38, is absconding.

On Friday morning, when an auto-rickshaw came to pick the kids for school, Paramjit was reportedly seen leaving the house on a bike. Later, when co-villagers entered the house, they found Palwinder and her children dead.

“Palwinder who was married to accused for 14 years, had injuries inflicted by a sharp weapon, while kids had been strangled to death,” said SP (investigation), Ferozepur, Baljit Singh Sandhu, who visited the spot.

“The reason behind the crime is not yet clear. Palwinder had a long talk with her parents on Thursday night in connection with the preparations of her brother Gurwinder Singh’s wedding scheduled for the second week of February. She didn’t mention any tension in the house,” the SP said.

It has been learnt that Paramjit had a BED degree and had been teaching students. He somehow became a drug addict. He quit drugs a year ago and became a baptised Sikh.

Palwinder was also a baptised Sikh and the couple would visit the village gurdwara regularly.

“Paramjit was under stress as he was under a debt of ₹7 lakh. He and his brother Avtar had 10 acres of joint agricultural land and he was cultivating the same land.

He was undergoing treatment for depression,” said a co-villager, pleading anonymity.

Couple daughter Mankirat was studying in Class 7, while Parbhjot was a student of Class 3 at a local private school.

On the basis of the statement of Palwinder’s brother Gurwinder Singh, a case under sections 302 and 34 of the IPC was registered against Paramjit Singh, his brother Avtar Singh and their mother Sukhjit Kaur. Investigation is on and police are yet to make an arrest.

“Preliminary medical examination of the bodies suggest the victims could have been poisoned and injuries inflicted later,” an official privy to the probe said, requesting anonymity.
