NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a 21-year-old student who they claimed had sent three e-mails six days threatening that Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s daughter will be ‘kidnapped and harmed’.

The police said that the suspect allegedly sent the threat emails to ‘draw people’s attention’ and get ‘quick treatment for his mental illness’.

The suspect, identified as Vikash Roy, who is pursuing a B.SC course through correspondence from Bihar’s Darbhanga university, was nabbed on Monday after the cyber cell unit of Delhi Police’s special cell tracked his location to his sister’s house in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh. Roy has been living in a rented flat in Delhi’s Burari and preparing for competitive exams.

Police said that Roy had used his personal mail ID to send the three emails to the CM’S office using his mobile phone on January 9. Roy was allegedly at his aunt’s home in south Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur when he sent the emails.

“In his first email, Roy allegedly claimed that he would harm the chief minister’s daughter and challenged him to do whatever he can do to protect her. His second email read that his email was fake and the threats were a ‘hoax’. In another mail, Roy reiterated that his email was fake,” said a cyber cell officer, associated with the probe.deputy commissioner of police (cyber cell) Anyesh Roy said they approached Google and established details of the email account holder as well as his cell phone number. “We tracked down Roy’s movement through electronic surveillance and nabbed him from his sister’s home. He was brought to Delhi on Thursday and arrested in a case registered under Sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of Indian Penal Code ,” said the DCP. He was later granted bail.

During interrogation, the DCP said, Roy told them that he had been experiencing some “unusual sounds” in his head every night for the last one and half months because of which he had been sleepless.police said Roy told them that he first consulted a private doctor and later visited the psychiatry department of Safdarjung Hospital. After listening to his problems, the psychiatrist referred him to the neurology department where various pathological tests were done and the reports confirmed that he had no neuro problem.
