CHANDIGARH : Buoyed by the win in recent mayoral elections and Jind bypoll, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday said the opposition parties had no issues to highlight during the Haryana assembly budget session, beginning February 20.

The government had delivered on all fronts – development, welfare schemes and fair governance—and BJP’S victory in mayoral polls in five major cities and Jind assembly bypoll is a testimony to this, BJP president and Tohana MLA Subhash Barala said.

The opposition, however, insisted that they would corner the government on various issues, including deteriorating law and order situation, corruption and employees’ stir.

Leader of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), the main opposition party, Abhay Chautala, said the BJP had won the recent polls by misusing official machinery, money power and by threatening voters.

“It is for anyone to see in Haryana that the law and order situation has deteriorated, corruption is rampant and there is resentment among employees of several government departments, he said.

Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda also flayed the BJP, alleging that it had done nothing for the state and corrupted the entire system.

“In mayoral polls, out of Rohtak’s total 22 wards, BJP lost in 14 and in Hisar’s total 20 wards, it lost in 13. What kind of win is BJP claiming? It has also brought no new project to Haryana and made a “tamasha” in recruitments,’’ he added.

The budget for 2019-2020 will be presented on February 26.

According to the tentative programme, the session will get underway with the governor’s address, followed by obituary references and laying of papers. On February 21, the house will have non-official business and the motion of thanks on the governor’s address would be taken up on February 22.

While the budget would be presented on February 26, discussion on it would begin the next day.

The voting on budget estimates would take place on March 1 after the finance minister’s reply. The assembly would resume business on March 5 when the appropriation bill in respect of supplementary estimates (third instalment) for 2018-2019 and the appropriation bill in respect of budget estimates for 2019-2020 would be presented. Beside others, the Electricity (Haryana amendment) Bill, 2019, will be moved during the session.

The report of the comptroller and auditor general (CAG) of India on appropriation accounts and finance accounts for current fiscal, will also be laid on the table of the house.
