Hurriyat leader Abbas Ansari seeks withdrawal of security

SRINAGAR :A day after security of four separatist leaders was withdrawn by government, former chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference, Molvi Abbas Ansari on Monday sought withdrawal of the police security provided to him.

The decision to withdraw the security of separatist leaders comes in the aftermath of Pulwama terror strike in which over 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

In a letters to the police’s security wing, the leader urged the senior superinten­dent of police, security, to withdraw the security cover provided to him by the government at his residence.

However, police said they are yet to receive the communicat­ion regarding the same, confirmed additional director general of police (ADGP), security, Muneer Khan.

“We will not provide any kind of accommodat­ion to the security personal henceforth,” the letter read.police had sought extra accommodat­ion for police personnel deputed for the leaders’ security, which was denied, Ansari’s spokespers­on said.

“We told them that on one hand you are withdrawin­g security of other leaders and on the other you are asking us for more accommodat­ion. We wrote to them that we will not provide any kind of accommodat­ion to the security personnel,” the spokesman said.

Abbas Ansari, who is part of moderate Hurriyat Conference currently led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has been provided six police personnel, including two personal security officers and a vehicle, as a part of the leader’s security cover.

The state administra­tion on Sunday withdrew the security cover of four Kashmiri separatist­s, including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, following a suicide bombing in Pulwama that killed 40 troopers in a CRPF convoy on February 14. Besides the Hurriyat chairman, the security details of Abdul Gani Bhat, Bilal Lone and Shabir Shah were also withdrawn, according to an official order issued in Srinagar.
