KANJLA (SANGRUR) : A day after offering himself for arrest in 2015 Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura firing incidents, former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal said the then CM could not be held responsible.

“As the Prime Minister and the defence minister are not responsible for the Kashmir attack and a case can’t be registered against them, the then chief minister should not be booked for firing incidents in the state,” he said at the Kanjla village on Friday. He was in the village to meet the family of former cabinet minister Gobind Singh Kanjla, who had passed away on February 9 after a prolonged illness.

“Incidents like Pulwama attack and Behbal Kalan and Kotkaupra firing often happen in states, but it does not mean that CM and PM will be booked,” he added. He went on to add, “Capt Amarinder Singh had declared that he will send us to jail before the assembly elections. I demand that a senior judge of the Supreme Court should probe the case.”

Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency, a one-time stronghold of the Akalis, has seen a revolt by SAD veteran and Rajya Sabha

member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa. Badal refused to comment, when queried on this.

“The Shiromani Akali Dal will revive itself. Though, sometimes parties have to face a tough time, the SAD is the only party which raises people’s voice and fights for their needs. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa has done a lot for the party and he is suffering from illness, as I am, due to old age. The party will resolve the matter as it is an internal issue.”
