IN REPLY TO DISCUSSION ON GOVERNOR’S ADDRESS, CM SAYS THERE IS ‘FAIR AND TRANSPARENT’ SYSTEM OF RECRUITMENTS UNDER BJP GOVT

CHANDIGARH: Highlighting “fair and transparent” system of recruitments in his government, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday said that 13,000 of the total 18,000 persons recruited in group-d posts during his tenure were those who had no other family member in government jobs.

In his reply on the discussion on the governor’s address in the ongoing budget session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Khattar rubbished allegations of some opposition MLAS that the government jobs were being given to some favourites of the ruling party.

Khattar held that it was for the first time in the BJP government that jobs are being given to only the deserving persons on the basis of merit unlike in the past when the same were given on the basis of ‘sifarishi parchis’ or in lieu of money.

He said the state government has given 18,000 government jobs on the basis of merit, which was more than the government jobs given in the past 10 years of the previous government. Besides, another 25,000 jobs would be provided in near future. “Also, we have decided to give instant no objection certificate to youths employed in a job for which they are overqualified and are interested to leave for a better job.”

In another announcement, he said a draft has also been recently readied which would be presented in the cabinet soon which pertained to the ex-gratia scheme which was discontinued in 2006.

“As per the draft, a dependent in case of death of an employee below 48 years would have an option to get full salary pension till the age of 58 or a government job at a post below. Earlier, job was given in the same department where the employee was working, but now in case of death below 48, job would be provided in any department on the pattern on jobs being provided to dependents of martyrs,” he said.

TAKES TOUGH STAND ON NHM EMPLOYEES

Referring to the ongoing strike by some National Health Mission (NHM) contractual employees, Khattar took a tough stance. He said that there was no provision to regularise the contractual employees working under NHM, a Central government’s project.

He said that if the employees would not agree to resume their duties, they would be terminated.

He also urged the leaders of opposition parties to make these employees understand as most of the employees were engaged during their tenure. Of the total about 13,000 such employees, only a section of them are sticking to the stir. “We have terminated services of about 2,600 employees and would have no choice but to terminate others also who would remain adamant,” he said.

RIVER WATER TO PAKISTAN

Referring to the inadequate irrigation means in the state, Khattar said farmers would get relief if the share of water going to Pakistan would be utilsed within the country.

The chief minister said the work of Shahpur Kandi is under progress and it will benefit Haryana. He said a memorandum of understanding has been signed for Lakhwar and Renuka project and the MOU for Kishau would soon be signed.

DRUG ADDICTION

Speaking on drug abuse, Khattar said the government would find a solution to the menace and bring youth on right track.

He said there are about 25,000 persons registered at 61 anti-addiction centres in the state.

The chief minister said the government would also take stern steps against those who were into supplying drugs to promote terrorist activities.
