HISAR: A 20-year-old youth here committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance after his girlfriend’s father allegedly refused to give him permission to marry her, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Thursday but the matter came to light on Friday, after the family members of the deceased, identified as Bhanu Kumar, lodged a police complaint in this regard.

They alleged that the father of the girl, Suresh, had taken Rs 7 lakh from Bhanu, promising to get him married to his daughter, but later he went back on his word.

The police also recovered a suicide note wherein Bhanu had mentioned that the girl’s father had taken money from him.
