Wanted gangster held with arms, intoxicating pills
RAHUL WAS ALSO WANTED IN SEVERAL CRIMINAL CASES, INCLUDING TWO ATTEMPT TO MURDER
AMRITSAR: Police arrested a gangster and recovered a firearm and intoxicating tablets from his possession during a search in Gagarbhana village under Mehta police station, late on Friday night. The arrested gangster has been identified as Rahul, 25, of Shekhupura locality in Jandiala Guru.
“Rahul was wanted in several criminal cases, including two attempt to murder. The accused was associated with Gopi Ghanshyampuria group, one of the Punjab’s notorious gang,” said police. A team led by ASI, Ajaypal Singh, of Mehta police station laid a barricading in Gagarbhana village and arrested Rahul on Friday. “When we frisked Rahul, we recovered 1225 intoxicant tablets, a country made pistol from the accused,” said the ASI.
Senior superintendent of police (Ssp-rural) Parampal Singh said, “During our preliminary investigation, we came to know that the accused was wanted in two cases registered against him at Jandiala police station under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act.” A case under the Arms Act and 22-61-85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered .
