There are differences between me and party leadership. I am still firm on my stand. Parminder should not contest the polls as there is public anger against the party. SUKHDEV SINGH DHINDSA, veteran Akali Dal leader
MASTUANA SAHIB (SANGRUR): Amid reports that the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is set to field former cabinet minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa from the Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency, his father and rebel party leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa on Monday said he has advised Parminder not to contest on SAD ticket.
“I have repeated many times that there are fundamental differences between me and party leadership. I am still firm on my stand. I will ask Parminder not to contest on SAD ticket as there is public anger against the party,” said the Rajya Sabha member, who was felicitated by some Sikh outfits at the Gurdwara Mastuana Sahib here after receiving Padma Bhushan award from President Ram Nath Kovind.
“I have conveyed my view to Parminder. Now, he will take the final call. He takes his political decisions on his own. I have taken retirement from the party,” he said while talking to mediapersons.
Parminder is SAD MLA from Lehra in Sangrur district.in January, his father had fired a salvo against SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, demanding his resignation to “pacify the public anger against the party.”
