2 robbers’ gangs busted, 11 held

GURDASPUR : The district police claimed to have busted two gangs of thieves and robbers following the arrest of eleven members of these gangs.

SSP Swarndeep Singh said the police received a tipoff that seven members of a gang were planning to strike some target near Sirkian Bridge near Gazikot on Sunday.

He said that a police party raided the spot and arrested six of them while the seventh member managed to escape.

The police recovered three baseball bats and three bikes from their possession. The arrested were identified as Sandeep Kumar of Dyalgarh village in Amritsar, Sunny of Talibpur in Gurdaspur, Banti, Arun Kumar, one Sodhi and Suraj Kumar, all residents of Patalpuri village in Amritsar, and Rohit of Galuwali village in the holy city. Sodhi was the one to flee the spot.

Police recovered a stolen tractor, washing machine, two inverter batteries, two fans, one water cooler, one mobile phone, one moped, one scooter and other household goods. A case under Sections 399 (dacoity),402(assembling for purpose of dacoity) and 379 (punishment for theft) of the IPC was registered.

In another raid, Gurdaspur sadar police arrested five persons from an abandoned shop at Kalanangal Focal Point while two of the gang members fled the spot. The gang had assembled to commit a robbery in the area.

Those arrested were Raja Masih and Lucky Masih, residents of village Goht Pokhar, Sulakhan Masih and Peter Masih, residents of Kotla Gujjran and Lucky of Munan Kalan.the duo, who managed to flee, were identified as Sanny and Rakesh Masih, both residents of Goht Pokhar village. SSP Swarndeep Singh said the police also recovered swords, and other traditiona­l weapons.

The accused had committed crimes in Gurdaspur, Tiber, Dinanagar, Dorangla, Dhariwal and Bhaini Mian Khan areas.

A case was registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code.
