BJP LIKELY TO FIELD WRESTLER YOGESHWAR FROM HARYANA
NEWDELHI/CHANDIGARH: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to field wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt from a constituency in Haryana for the Lok Sabha elections, party sources said on Friday. His name was recommended by the party’s state unit leadership, among other probables for the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana, before the party’s central election committee at New Delhi.
Dutt, who won the bronze medal in the 2012 Olympic Games, is likely to be fielded either from Sonepat or Rohtak, the sources said.
State party president Subhash Barala said that detailed discussions were held with the central election committee on Friday on the suitability of candidates. “However the final list will not be released tonight. The central election committee will decide on the names shortly,” he said. The party had contested eight seats in 2014 and won seven. There are indications that the party may change candidates in Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Rohtak and Sonepat Lok Sabha constituencies.
BLOCK SAMITI MEMBER’S HUSBAND KILLED IN ROHTAK
The husband of a block samiti member from Sundarpur village in Rohtak was on Thursday stabbed to death by some men of the village after a petty fight.
The police said Manjit, the husband of Kiranbala, was talking to his friends on village road when the accused Ashwini passed by and threatened him over an old conflict. The duo had a verbal exchange following which Ashwini went away.
Later, when Manjit was going home and was passing by Ashwini’s house, he was dragged inside by Ashwini’s family and stabbed to death. Manjit’s friends who came to his rescue were also injured by the accused.
