LUDHIANA: Class-10 students of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) were shocked as one question was missing in the mathematics question paper which was held on Friday.

The question number 22, carrying four marks, in Set C (English version), was missing which left the students jittery at the examination centres. However, the question papers in Hindi and Punjabi versions carried the question. Giving details, a government school teacher, requesting anonymity, said, “I was on examination duty and after the exam started at 10 am today, students attempting the mathematics paper in English medium raised queries regarding the question number 22, which was missing in set C.”

“I informed the school controller regarding this problem, but was asked to instruct students to attempt the other questions in the paper. Such discrepancies are a cause of concern as it was a four- mark question. This also shows that no proof reading is done as after question number 21, question number 23 is printed.”

Inderjit Singh, a Class-10 student of a government school, said, “When I noticed the question number 22 missing, I immediately informed the teacher on duty but till the end of the exam, nothing was conveyed to the students regarding the question. The missing question carried four marks. If I lose these marks, it will affect my overall percentage. I hope we get grace marks for the same.”

Meanwhile, the Association of the PSEB Affiliated Schools, Punjab, has written to the board, requesting grace marks for the students.

Rajinder Sharma, president of the association, said, “The board must give grace marks to the students for the missing question as they can’t be faulted for not attempting it.”

PSEB chairman Manohar Kant Kalohia, said, “I am aware of this matter and a decision on this issue will be taken on Saturday.
