Jitendra Singh, six others file nomination papers in Jammu
JAMMU: Seven candidates, including BJP’S two sitting MPS Jitendra Singh and Jugal Kishore Sharma, filed their nomination papers in three Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir Friday, officials said.
Singh and Sharma filed the nomination papers for the Udhampur-doda and Jammupoonch parliament seats, respectively, they said.
Accompanied by Railways Minister Piyush Goyal, Singh, arrived at the deputy commissioner’s office in a procession and filed his nomination before the returning officer.
After filing the papers, 64-yearold Singh, the Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, addressed a party rally.
Singh, who is the sitting MP from Udhampur constituency, had defeated the Congress stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad in the previous election.
The seat will go for polling in the second phase on April 18.
“I am seeking votes on my development report card of five years, which is in itself a history of sorts in journey of development in this constituency. There is a long list of major infrastructure projects undertaken and completed,” he told reporters here.
“The nation has made up its mind to re-elect Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister. Modi wave remains intact across the country,” Singh said.
Singh is pitted against Congress and National Conference coalition candidate Vikramaditya Singh, the son of veteran Congress leader Karan Singh. T.
“The BJP is a mass-based party and does not believe in dynasty or casteism. Our main aim is to live up to the expectations of youth, who are seventy percent of the population and are below thirty years of age.”
Former state party president and sitting MP Jugal Kishore Sharma filed his nomination for Jammu-poonch Lok Sabha seat here, with a massive rally from Indira Chowk to deputy commissioner’s office.
Senior leaders including, state BJP president Ravinder Raina, state organisation secretary Ashok Kaul, former ministers Sat Sharma, Choudhary Sukhnandan, Bali Bhagat, Priya Sethi, former MLAS Rajesh Gupta, Gharu Ram Bhagat, MP Shamsher Singh Manhas and MLC Chranjeet Khalsa accompanied Kishore to the DC office.
Sharma is the sitting MP from the Jammu-poonch Lok Sabha seat and had defeated two-time sitting MP Madan Lal Sharma in the previous election. As per election authorities, Subhash Chander as an Independent candidate filed his nomination paper to returning officer Ramesh Kumar at DC Office in Jammu. With this, a total of four nominations have been filed so far in the Jammu LS seat.the seat goes to polling in the first phase on April 11. The others who have filed the nominations are Raja Aijaz Ali of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (JKPC), Abdul Quyoom Wani of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammad Akbar Lone of National Conference (NC) and Syed Ameer Sohail as an Independent Candidate.
