THE GOVERNMENT RAILWAY POLICE SAID SALON OWNER ARUN BASSI COMMITTED SUICIDE FOLLOWING A FINANCIAL DISPUTE WITH THE ACCUSED DEEPAK SHARMA

JALANDHAR : In a major development, Congress leader Deepak Sharma was arrested on Saturday on the charges of abetment to suicide.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested block president Deepak Sharma, for pressurising 38-year-old Arun Bassi, a salon owner, to commit suicide.

Deepak was arrested on the basis of a video evidence recovered from Arun Bassi’s mobile.

On February 9, the Government Railway Police had recovered the body of Bassi, a resident of Basti Peer Daad near the Sodal railway track.

While the reason for death was earlier ascertained by the police, the GRP on Saturday confirmed that Bassi committed suicide due to some financial enmity with Deepak.

Government Railway Police station house officer (SHO) Dharminder Kalyan said, “We have recovered a video from Bassi’s mobile phone, in which he had claimed that he was backstabbed by his friend Deepak in some business deal.”

“In the video, Bassi had said that he was forced to commit suicide,” the station house officer added.

During investigation, it was also revealed that Bassi owed around ₹13 lakh to the money lender.

While the accused was presented before the court on Saturday, the Government Railway Police registered a case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) against the accused.
